EXPRESS WINNERS………….James Taylor’s rink of Helen Bell, Kate Warters and Brian Aspland were the winners of the Express Tyre Service trophy competition held at Lockerbie Ice Rink last Thursday afternoon. The runners-up were John Taylor’s rink of Eileen Broatch, Neill Smith and Sue Wilkinson who after leading throughout the game, were narrowly beaten in a very exciting final end.
Margaret Taylor thanked the sponsors Express Tyre Service for their generous sponsorship and Maxxis Tyres for providing prizes. Ian Hamilton presented the Express Tyre Trophy and Jill Hamilton on behalf of Maxxis Tyres presented the prizes.

Walter Carlyle Ladies Open
Lockerbie Ice Rink attracted many lady curlers last week participating in the Walter Carlyle Ladies Open competition.
The High Road rink skipped by Christine Ross, with Valerie Davidson, Sheena Black and Jean Irving had a close win over the visiting rink, skipped by Liz Paul, with Ann-Maree Davidson, Margaret Cairns and Anne Hewitt.
Moira Hasting’s rink of Anne Smith, Fiona Robson and Linda Smith were the winners of the Low Road trophy over Helen Bell’s rink of Irene Hastings, Marjorie Neill and Tina Johnston.

TROPHY WINNERS…………..the winners of the Brieryhill Trophy competition kindly sponsored by Brogan Fuels was the Hutton rink skipped by Rae Graham, with John Miller, Alison Boyd and Pam Maxon.
The runners up were the Dumfries rink skipped by Jim Hogg with Ron McGrouther, Gillian Graham and Mary Williamson.

RUTHWELL TRIUMPH…………….The Mansfield Trophy curling competition was held at Lockerbie Ice Rink last Wednesday evening and was won by Ruthwell Curling Club who narrowly defeated Waterbeck Curling Club in the final. Rae Graham, on behalf of the Dumfriesshire Province thanked V & M Thomson, Funeral Directors for kindly sponsoring the competition before inviting Christine Webster to present the trophy and prizes.

SENIOR SUCCESS……………the final of the Senior League competition was played at Lockerbie Ice Rink last Thursday evening. The winning rink, skipped by David Carlyle and his rink of Christine Stewart, Pam Maxon and Colin Wilkinson defeated Jim Hogg’s rink of Ritchie Strawhorn, Linda Carlyle and Marjorie Smith. The prizes, specially commissioned by Mr Willie Muir and family were from Lorrie Kyle Stained Glass. The prizes and the Alison Muir Trophy were presented by Sheona Muir.

TOP PAIRS……….the Scottish Pairs competition, sponsored by C & D Auction Marts Ltd was held recently at Lockerbie Ice Rink. The winning pair were Graeme Black and David McMiken who now go forward to the Scottish Curling Pairs Championship at Stranraer from 17 – 19 March 2017. Over 60s Bonspiel
Fun Bonspiel ……………..The winners of the Over 60s Fun Bonspiel held at Lockerbie Ice Rink on Monday afternoon were Roy Broatch, Christine Stewart and Les Goodwin. Following an excellent buffet and great camaraderie the afternoon was brought to a close with the presentation of prizes by Mary Neilson.

WA Smith Trophy
SMITH TROPHY WINNERS…………..The final of the Wullie Smith Trophy, sponsored by local agricultural contractors Graham Rae, Kenny Spence and Drew Watson took place last Wednesday evening at Lockerbie Ice Rink.
Jamie Strawhorn’s rink of Claire Sloan, Ewan Paul and Jack Strawhorn were the winners over Duncan Gracie’s rink of Scott Robertson, Cammy McNay and David McMiken.

FAMILY FUN……….the Family Bonspiel took place last week at Lockerbie Ice Rink. After a fun filled afternoon of curling, David Edwards rink of Anne Key, Margaret Edwards and Kate Warters were the winners. 2nd were Ewan Paul’s rink of Andrew Jardine, Lisa Jardine and Mhairi Paul, 3rd was Jake Hathaway’s rink of Bryce Sloan, Caron Hathaway and Robert Sloan and 4th was Euan Byers, Laura Kirkpatrick, Jacqui Byers and Ben Crosbie.

SINGLES WINNERS…………………the Xmas Singles competition was played last Wednesday evening at Lockerbie Ice Rink with the winner being 1st Dave Beattie, 2nd Jack Strawhorn, 3rd William Johnstone, and 4th Les Goodwin. Kenny Henry presented the prizes.

Asham under 21 Slam
The last leg of the Asham Under 21 Slam was held at Lockerbie last weekend and attracted team 18 teams of young curlers from all over Scotland including a girls team from Latvia.
As ever the standard was very high and many spectators who came along were certainly not disappointed. The competition is keenly sponsored by local businesses and grateful thanks go to Dryfe Veterinary Group, Henderson and Mackay, King’s Arms Hotel, C M Kirkpatrick and McJerrow & Stevenson for their continued support.

Lady Presidents Day
LEADING LADIES…..Lady President’s Day was held last Friday at Lockerbie Ice Rink. Ten teams took part on the day and after some close games the winners were the visiting rink from Kelso. Judith Dixon’s rink of Helen Forbes, Elspeth Bell and Lindsey McGillvary beat Marion Murdoch’s rink of Margaret Roger, Marilyn Muir and Susan Drummond.
President Ann Johnstone thanked the sponsors Annandale Herald for their continuing support before presenting the prizes on their behalf.
PERFECT PAIRS……….The final of the Directors Pairs competition was held on Monday evening at Lockerbie Ice Rink. The winners were Rae Graham and Jim Goldie who beat Scott Hamilton and Bill Burnett. Henderson Bishop Qualifier
TROPHY WINNERS……………several rinks competed at Lockerbie Ice Rink last week to decide who would represent Lockerbie in the Scottish Finals of the Henderson Bishop Trophy to be held at Kinross Ice Rink from 27th February to 2nd March 2017.
Congratulations go to Moira Hastings’s rink of Lorna Vevers, Fiona Robson and Suzi Smith against Claire Sloan’s rink of Vicky Mullen, Marjorie Neill and Helen Bell. We were entertained to some excellent curling, culminating in an extra end with Claire having the last stone, however she was unable to take the end making Moira and her team the winners.

Ladies Winning Rink……………The final of the Dr Walker competition was played last Thursday afternoon with Christine Stewart’s rink of Marilyn Muir, Grace Hind and Nancy McLure taking an early lead, but Margaret Taylor’s rink of Eileen Broatch, Annette Henderson and Pam Maxon fought back and went into the last end one shot up. A very exciting final end was won with Christine managing to draw her last stone to secure the game and the trophy. Scottish Province Qualifier
QUALIFIED…..Applegarth & Sibbaldbie Curling Club were the winners of the Dumfriesshire Province qualifier at Lockerbie Ice Rink Last Wednesday evening. Scott Hamilton skipped his rink of Ross Fraser, David Hamilton and Andrew Robson to victory over Billy Nairn’s Lochmaben rink.
Anne Vevers, Province Committee member presented the prizes to the winning team. Congratulations to Scott and his team and good luck in the National Province Finals at Greenacres this weekend.

Under 17 Slam
UNDER 17 SLAM – LOCKERBIE Lockerbie Ice Rink was the venue for the rst event in the Asham Under 17 Slam of 2016/17, the JEM Stevenson Trophy, which was contested 24th – 25th September. Twenty-four junior teams from all over Scotland competed in this weekend competition, with six sections being played and group winners and runners-up keenly contesting for a place in either the High Road or the Low Road. Some local curlers competed in the nal stages, with all the teams showing good competitive curling. Ultimately last year’s winner Team Kinnear (Callum Kinnear, Ryan McCormack, Duncan McFadzean and Matthew McKenzie) emerged the winners of the JEM Stevenson Trophy over James Hair’s team of Fraser Morton, Angus Naysmith and Scott Barr. The Low Road nal was played between Dumfries Team Kennedy, (Fergus Kennedy, Scott Hyslop, Nevin Harmjanz and Finlay Kennedy) against Team Haswell (Blair Haswell, Adam Keron, Cameron Paterson and Adam MacDairmid) with Blair’s team winning the Lockerbie & District Rotary Club Shield. Alistair Stevenson, representing the Stevenson family, invited Gordon Dinwoodie to present the High Road trophy and prizes to the winning team. Ian Potts representing the Rotary Club presented the Low Road prizes and Rotary Shield to the winners. Grateful thanks to the Stevenson Family, Lockerbie & District Rotary Club, Gordon Dinwoodie from Sport & Trophy Centre and Asham Curling Supplies for their continued support and sponsorship.
